G-Mate Mag Gun controller for Xbox and PS3 gets FCC approval we'd like to see them try and stop it
(via Engadget) - Hopefully you had your Campbell's Chunky Fully Loaded Beef Stew this morning, because it takes a Man to look down the barrel of the G-Mate Mag Gun and live. The weapon just passed through the FCC unscathed, and now it's gunning for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The basic operation is simple enough, with triggers, face buttons, a d-pad and everything else you'd need to ape a modern console controller.

(via Engadget) - This might not be as sexy as its recent physical redesign, but the Xbox 360 is about to take what might be a major leap forward for many gamers. App review: 720tube
(via Engadget) - Apple loves to tout the HD video recording and editing capabilities of its new iPhone 4. Shoot.Edit.Share, says the slogan. Unfortunately, something nasty happens between the shooting and YouTube sharing: compression. Apple squashes your magical 720p memory into a rather glum looking 360p video just as soon as you select "Send to YouTube.

PDP announces accessories for your accessory so you can connect your Kinect
(via Engadget) - PDP is no stranger to the third-party peripheral game, adding a little Tron theme to controllers, adding a little motion to the Xbox 360, and releasing the Rock Band Stage Kit so that you can add a little fog to your foyer. Now the company is taking things a step further, producing a series accessories for what Microsoft hopes will be the hottest accessory this fall: the Kinect.

Windows Phone 7's short-term future includes phone-to-console gaming, Twitter?
(via Engadget) - At this point you'd think we covered almost every nook and cranny of Windows Phone 7, from games and UI to a launch device or six, but of course there's a few dust balls of info our swiffer of newsgathering has yet to grab up. Microsoft Canada's Greg Milligan has revealed at a recent Xbox 360 event.

(via Engadget) - We'd actually kind of assumed this thing had been deep-sixed as faster, better phones have passed it by all summer long, but nay: Dell's Aero is finally in the land of the living. You can score the 3.5-inch 640 x 360 Android phone today with two-year AT&T contract for $99.

Microsoft details Vejle, the new Xbox 360's system-on-chip architecture
(via Engadget) - There aren't many unresolved mysteries with Microsoft's new console by this point -- apart from perhaps why it wasn't named the Stealthbox, like we were suggesting -- but one thing that hasn't been covered in excruciating detail yet is the new 360's splicing of the CPU and GPU into the same chip.

Nokia 5250 gets official: €115 for a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 16:9 display ratio updated
(via Engadget) - Nokia is being coy this morning by revealing a trio of pictures of what it only describes as its "new device." Of course, being a devoted Engadget reader, you'll instantly recognize the visage above as that of the Nokia 5250 -- the already leaked successor to the 5230 ( aka the Nuron).

Nokia N900 does real-time face tracking for verification video
(via Engadget) - In a world where smartphone unlock patterns and PINs can be easily gleaned from display muck, and computer passwords can be deciphered from the telltale audible clicks of the keyboard, it's any wonder that research is funded for alternative identity verification schemes.

Iron Man Xbox 360 escapes Stark Industries, heads right to eBay
(via Engadget) - Halo-inspired Xbox 360? Check. Xbox 360 laptop? Seen it. Xbox 360 fused with a PS3? Yep. A Tony Stark-approved Xbox 360? Thanks to one Zachariah Perry Cruse, we can now add this beaut to the list. This here design student managed to use his summer vacation for a little more than weekend jaunts to Gary, putting an awful lot of blood, sweat and fear into his very own Iron Man Xbox 360.

Redspotgames has plans for further Dreamcast development
(via Engadget) - Whether you're still lugging around that old Dreamcast, or you have a new-fangled mod or an emulator of some sort handy, have heart: you're not the only one keeping the dream alive! If the kids at Redspotgames have their way, they'll keep publishing games for the venerable (and defunct) console -- that is, according to marketing and sales director Adrian Loudero, who spent some time chatting with Joystiq at Gamescon last week.

BlackBerry Bold R020 and 9670 Oxford flip outed?
(via Engadget) - It's felt almost as if the BlackBerry smartphone rumor mill has been a little too quiet -- dare we say burnt out -- since the Torch hit the scene (BlackPad notwithstanding, of course). That's all changed with a pair of interesting leaks care of Boy Genius Report. Behold a successor to the Bold 9700, the R020.

EA a notable holdout on Xbox Live for Windows Phone 7, doesn't have much to say on the subject
(via Engadget) - If you examined the fairly impressive roster of Windows Phone 7 Xbox Live launch titles that Microsoft waved proudly in our face the other day, you might've noticed that EA is particularly absent from that glorious list. Well, the folks at Mobile Entertainment bothered to ask EA Mobile about that absence, and EA had this terse reply: "We are constantly evaluating new platforms and opportunities, but have nothing to announce right now.

Hey, go check out our Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 gaming preview
(via Engadget) - Hey, just a reminder that we did a full preview of Xbox Live gaming on Windows Phone 7 last night, complete with a list of launch titles -- it's looking like Microsoft will come out of the gate with a pretty killer single-player gaming experience on their new mobile platform, but multiplayer will have to wait.

7-inch iPad tattle churns through Taiwanese rumor mills
(via Engadget) - The 7-inch iPad rumors are suddenly hot and heavy. In the last few weeks, we've seen a series of reports claiming that Apple was working on a smaller iPad (or bigger iPod touch?) set for release between the end of 2010 or early 2011. A DigiTimes piece, sourcing its own "analyst," claimed that the device would be making a jump to the Cortex A9 processor core, 512MB of RAM like the iPhone 4, and a 1,024 x 768 pixel IPS panel -- the same resolution as the 9.

Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360 launching on November 10 in Europe
(via Engadget) - While Microsoft's new controller-free Kinect for Xbox 360 will be hitting US shores on November 4th, we've just learned that it'll officially land in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa on November 10th. Sure, that's a bit of a wait, but take heart in knowing that Microsoft's targeting an October launch of its Xbox Live lovin' Windows Phone 7 handsets in Europe compared to a November release in the US.

Xbox Live launch titles for Windows Phone 7 finally revealed, we've got the full preview
(via Engadget) - We've known that proper Xbox Live gaming (powered by XNA) was coming to Windows Phone 7 devices, but we'd yet to see any of that thumb-spraining goodness in action besides a brief demo and a few developer videos. Well, Microsoft has finally come clean with details about its launch strategy for the platform, and from where we sit, it's definitely looking pretty promising.

New Xbox 360 hacked to play 'backup' discs, public release underway? video
(via Engadget) - If you're looking for video proof of the latest and greatest Xbox 360 firmware mod, you won't find it in the video after the break, but we're almost willing to take it on Team Xecuter's word and long-standing reputation that they've hacked the new Xbox 360. Banding together with Team Jungle and commodore4eva -- the hacker who brought backups to the original console in 2006 -- the group says they've successfully patched the DVD drive to play burned discs.

Fable III's special edition Xbox 360 controller, morally ambiguous and gold
(via Engadget) - Because standard hues and anachronistic science fiction designs simply won't mesh, Microsoft will be releasing this kingly limited edition Fable III Xbox 360 controller designed after the in-game Crown of Albion. Street date is October 5th, three weeks before the game itself decides to rear its royal head, and comes with a token for downloading an exclusive in-game tattoo.

Carmack blows minds with id Software's Rage, running on iPhone at 60fps with 'megatextured' graphics video
(via Engadget) - We're sorry, but the Palm Pixi's rendition of Need for Speed no longer impresses us -- we've just seen John Carmack show off Rage for iPhone. While of course it looks nothing like the PC graphical monstrosity that swept the E3 Games Critics Awards, it's safe to say the 60 frame-per-second tech demo at QuakeCon 2010 shoves the cell phone gaming envelope through a Juggernaut-class brick wall.

Lenovo side project to launch Xbox 360 / Kinect knockoff in China: hello, eBox
(via Engadget) - Well... this is interesting. Prior to Kinect hitting the masses in November, one Eedoo looks to be doing the world one better (or worse) with the eBox. In what can only be described as a bizarre tale of mystery, a Lenovo co-founded company has decided to produce what amounts to an Xbox 360 knockoff as well as a motion sensing peripheral that unquestionably takes inspiration from Kinect.

Microsoft to open mobile games studio, develop and incubate Windows Phone 7 titles
(via Engadget) - Microsoft employees may eat their own dog food, but they won't have to code cross-platform Windows Phone 7 games in their spare time -- Redmond job postings recently revealed that there's a studio for that, which will develop and publish first- and second-party titles on the company's dime.

Blockbuster including games in its by-mail rentals
(via Engadget) - It's almost inspiring, the way that Blockbuster bravely marches on, despite such moves as boning Total Access and cutting back on its new movie purchases. And the latest bid for relevance? If you're receiving your, um, "blockbusters" via snail mail you'll soon be able to add your Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii games to the mix (and by "soon," we mean "now").

UK gamers finally get a taste of overpriced immersion with the PS3 X-Dream Gyroxus motion chair video
(via Engadget) - Leaning in your chair while gaming? It's a natural thing -- we all do it. However, it's rare that the chair helps, doing its part to increase the thrill factor by tipping you even closer to the laminate flooring. That's exactly what the X-Dream Gyroxus Gaming Chair offers, motion gaming in a somewhat portable package rather more friendly for the living room than some alternatives we've seen.

Microsoft pulls apart a Kinect camera, tickles your non-gaming fetish
(via Engadget) - Tease as much as you want, Sony, but things get real serious when you flip to the other side and look at the magic behind Microsoft's Kinect camera. Recently, T3 was able to get behind the scenes for a quick lesson on how this Xbox 360 peripheral works, and as part of the tour, it also saw the innocent sensor sitting bare naked in the lab.

250GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle tipped on 4GB packaging
(via Engadget) - Well, well -- what have we here? We already knew that Microsoft was planning to ship a 4GB Xbox 360 bundle that included Kinect, and now it seems as if the Big M will also package its forthcoming motion sensor with the 250GB 'box. Based on the packaging of a 4GB bundle over in Australia, it definitely looks as if consumers will have a more capacious option if buying an Xbox 360 for the first time with Kinect, but we're all waiting with bated breath to hear the official confirmation (or denial, but mostly just confirmation) from Ballmer's crew.

Telus turns Canadian Xbox 360s into IPTV boxes starting today
(via Engadget) - After years (and years) of waiting it's no surprise to see the Xbox 360 finally sliding into the role of IPTV set-top box, but we couldn't have seen Canada's Telus being the first in North America to offer the option. It only switched customers over to the Microsoft Mediaroom platform (also used by AT&T's U-Verse, where the feature should appear soon) powering its Optik TV package -- currently only available in Alberta and B.
