In the News
Microsoft loosens its iron grip on Xbox Live content -- Speaking at Gamefest 2007, Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Live Silver Platform (XLSP). This is a new means by which developers will be able to deliver data to Xbox Live through publisher servers rather than Microsoft]s. The main upshot of this is that it will allow for PC mods and maps to make their way to Xbox games, much in the same way that Epic is going to do with its map content for the upcoming Unreal Tournament III on PS3. European and Middle-East Xbox 360 Price Drop Official  -- Microsoft announced an estimated retail price drop for its Xbox 360 family of consoles in Europe and the Middle East, and welcomed a new member of the family - Xbox 360 Elite. [http://www.360plex.com/news/go/139737/]

Newer Xboxes -- New HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 Premiums are clearly marked for your consumer discretion. And one photobucket philanthropist has posted exactly what these markings look like. As you can see in this side by side, the Premium's list is WAY longer than the Core's with the addition of HDMI. Also, when the current "Zephyr" chips are replaced with new, smaller, cooler "Falcon" technology, that will be right on the box as well. [http://www.360plex.com/news/go/134986/]

Xbox 360 Double Game Bundles  -- Microsoft has put together Double Game Bundles for the Xbox 360. So what's in the bundle? Well, besides the console itself, its accessories and cables, it will also include not one but two free games - namely Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The bundle itself comes in two - the Xbox 360 Pro, with the usual white-colored console for your main source of next-gen goodness, and the Xbox 360 Elite. [http://www.360plex.com/news/go/135606/]

Judge Terminates Anti-Video Game Law, but Governor Schwarzenegger Wants It Back   -- After Federal Judge Ronald Whyte, declared California's Anti-Video Game Bill, AB1179, unconstitutional as it would have regulated video games, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger now will appeal the ruling and wants the law back. He is completely disregarding the Constitution, court rulings across the country, and the ESRB's successful progress in educating parents on how to protect their children. Unreal Tournament 3 Will Drop Maps to Fit on DVD -- Speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Rein said: "We'll compress some things. But you know, we may have fewer maps on the 360 version. Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom." The Epic VP added, "If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-Ray disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make. Thanks again for your comments. If you do like our show be sure to spread the word and subscribe to the show on itunes.

Show Correction: The falcon chip in Xbox 360's that will start showing up at retailers soon is a 65-nanometer chip not a 90nm like I said in the show. Not the first mistake we have made, but we will try to post corrections where we find them.

Gunnz, I hope your opinion turns on Bioshock. Playing through the game really does not get all that repetitive, kind of like a 'shooter RPG' of sorts but with a linear storyline. I don't care about the lack of multiplayer; there are very few games that have both stellar single player and stellar multiplayer, and I'd rather have have an exceptional one with out the other.

Bioshock is gorgeous. The splicers don't have to be well rendered or look good; they are a personification of all that has gone wrong with this utopia. The sound design is amazing. And the gameplay is fun, and does not really have any dull moments.

If I have one knock on the game, its that there is essentially no penalty for dying. I can die over and over and kill a Big Daddy by just knocking his health down bit by bit. He doesn't even attack you straight off the bat the second time because you seem friendly.

The game is definately a 9.5. There are no games out yet this year that are any better and there may not be many more by year's end.

I'm afraid Gunnz's opinion won't change much when he plays the full version, mainly due to all the hype it has to live up to. But if he can put everything else aside for a few hours, he'll see that there's a lot to admire in it.

Now if I could just stop playing that Call of Duty 4 beta...

Bioshock is the next game I'm trying to rent. Once I get a chance to play the full title I'll be sure to give an updated opinion. Thanks again to all of the 360Plexers for the support and comments!

I beat Bioshock on Labor Day, and while I'll save most of my comments for the next podcast (coming soon!), I'll say that my review puts me in between Hero and Gunnz...

BioShock is a great game, but not as good as all the hype around it. But it's no 7, as Gunnz thinks. I would put it at about a 8.5.

And what's up with the next podcast? When's it comin out?

We've been having trouble getting everyone's schedule together, since some of us work nights, and one of us was out of the country on vacation. But we're trying to get one taped in the next couple of days. Stay tuned...
