2010-04-22Got this game for $4 at Game Stops XBox 360 bargain. It wasnt until after I played it, that I read some of the bad reviews and I kindve agree. There are some glitches and the game can be frustrating at times. The graphics are though...very good and the game can be pretty fun when its no frustrating.
One of my favorite parts of the game is being able to practice shooting and dunking while the game is loading the arena.
Only get this game if its super cheap where you spot it

2009-04-30This game has great graphics and a great dynasty mode. The only thing wrong with this game is that the rebounding is hard and using the SHOOTER X-Factor is hard to shoot with.
I rate this
4/5
7/10

2009-01-25The game has unbelievable graphics, you feel like you are there. I love this game and dont ever get tired of it. There are many different settings you can play on the game. The game can be challenging depending how good you are and how hard you want it to be. So much fun!

2007-05-13The graphics really look nice and I also like the in depth "create a player." The game is a lot of fun and you can do a lot. From the Dynasty standpoint, the game is really realistic and the ESPN integration is really cool. The downfall is during the game, you can blow by anyone and dunk on anyone which is not realistic at all. Its quite fun to play, but not realistic. So, if you are looking for the overall most realistic basketball game out there, I would look elsewhere. If you are looking to just have fun and really enjoy a nice basketball game, then I HIGHLY recommend buying it.

2007-03-12I can see how other people may not be into this game, but I really like it. The graphics and presentation are awesome. Some gripe about the framerate, but its normal in my opinion and you dont really notice it when in the heat of a good game. The ESPN integration is the coolest feature Ive seen for anything related to X-Box Live. Live 07 has loads of modes and features, so replay value isnt a problem. And for once, we have insightful commentators! Even non-household names get analyzed, and nothing is outdated ("Shareef played for bad teams early in his career, but finally made the playoffs last year with Sacramento..."). It avoids being repetitive, which is pretty amazing over an 82-game season!
A couple things could be fixed for next year, namely the controls. The new Freestyle control option is really cool, though a bit complicated, and personally I think basketball games should stick with one shoot button (probably at the Y-spot on the X-Box 360 controller). And this game is hard. Most opponents seem like a combination of the real-life Pistons, Spurs, and Mavs. If you fall behind early, good luck pulling off a W. But I like that its realistic in that teams rarely make comebacks by hoisting trey after trey. The best way to win is good execution.
If youre a true NBA fan, Live 07 is great. If youre not, I can see where some nitpicking could come in. I got this one as a present and I love it. Its a ton of fun, which is why most of us play these things in the first place!

2007-02-17Having high hopes upon purchasing this game at Best Buy, the result was no other than down right disappointing. Compare to 06, this game is nothing but fast-break runs and dunk fest.
1. Shooting and blocking in this totally mess up. Shooting fade ways gets your shot block. The shooting animation looks like robots fling your arm.
2. Impossible to take an offensive charge. After trying 999 times outside the restricted area, I got 1 call, while the other 998 times the guy just dunks over me.
3. The new free throw system will take some time to master. And even if you master it, you might as well just press the B button for auto free throw. Why? Because the free throw rating on each player is all mess up. As Kobe, I cant make consistent free throws, but some how Kwame makes better free throws?
4. Rebounding is a total horror. Offense rebound = 9/10, yet defense rebound = 1/10. A 63 PG can grab a rebound from a 610 PF or C.
5. FAST BREAK = WIN. Just tweak your gameplay to fast break and you are gold. Once you have the ball, toss to the other end and dunk it.
I totally regret buying this game. Ill now go purchase NBA 2K7. Im selling this game to my friend for $10.

2007-02-12Look, this game is pretty addicting, especially when you play online. Shots are not impossible, and the computer is pretty easy... When you play online it is really fun. I dont know how the guy a couple reviews below me lost by 45 to Hawks,...he must not be very good. THere are a few couple missed dunks, but this only happens when a guy contests the dunk, and the offensive player is not a great dunk.Just press the y button for layups those almost always go in, yes they dont look as good, but they get the job done. This game is really fun, go get it.

2007-02-01The graphics in this game is great but its wayyy to easy..Im playing a sesaon in superstar mode and lost only 2 games the whole season, then sweep every team in the playoffs and my wins was like by 30-40 points...06 was at least a little more close to hang with me, this game is totlly way to easy to play

2007-01-05I have been playing NBA Live since it was first released, and I can honestly say that this year has been a huge disappointment for me.

On:
2007-01-04This game stated the best selling game, but their makers forgot to write the worst game ever. I never thought that EA would release such a poor excuse of a basketball game. NBA2K7 took the best played game title and skiped on home all the way with the crown. Ill never purchase another NBA Live game ever till they make up for that fatal accident that they let escape into the market...!
P.s The only reason I rated this game, was because I had to in order to complete this review!

2006-12-24I had, and quickly got addicted to, NBA Live 2006 for the XBox. When I picked up my 360, I thought, okay, now, which games do I really, really want to see in Hi-Def? So, I picked up the Big Three: Madden, Fight Night 3, and the, unknown to me at the time, one-star wonder that IS NBA Live 07.
I expected to lose, I realize that when a new game version comes out. But, you get used to the changes, adapt, and go on your winning way.
Not with this steaming dog turd.
Like many have said before, the camera angles make it hard to keep track of the action, and the computer just takes over the game. Ive played it over and over again, even with teams ranked lower than mine, and the opposing team always makes almost all of their shots, and their players are faster than mine. I swear they run like theyre knee deep in wet concrete!
The graphics are great, but who cares if the gameplay stinks. I was hoping they would change the foul shooting mechanics for this version, but no. So, if in some miraculous instance YOU get fouled instead of the other way around, dont plan on nothing-but-nets.
The three-point shooting is abismal, and defense is nonexistent. One of the things I loved in the game was stealing the ball, and cutting into a fast break. Not in this game. For some reason, you cant stay in front of your man, and if you lean in too far, and get dodged, your guy stumbles about three steps, and leaves his man open to charge the net.
And if you do get a fast break going, your guys are so slow, the other team is on your heels or have one or two guys at the net by the time you get there.
I bought the wireless version of 360, and actually thought it was a problem with the signal getting from the controller to the box.
Nope.
A lot of effort went into this, you can tell. Its beautiful to look at, but playing it will make you want to pull your hair out by the roots.
I actually went back to my old XBox and played NBA Live 06. Graphics arent as good, but its not graphics Im paying for. The thing plays great.

2006-12-24The only reason this games average isnt 5 stars is because the people who hate this game are generally the only ones to write reviews. This game is perfect! It has everything youd want. Theres nothing bad. Even though loading sometimes takes a while, you can screw around with t-mac in between. the all-star weekend is really cool, especially the slam dunk contest. The dynasty mode is so freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can get all of your favorite players, and its so realistic. this game is amazing.

2006-12-09Made the mistake of buying this game the other day without reading reviews.
I have NBA Live 06 and I really enjoy playing that game. I assumed Live 07 would be similar with better graphics. It is not. Difficult to control players. Hard to follow whats happening, hard to follow which player you are controlling. Your teammates play no defence. The dunks are weird - they happen VERY quickly, hard to put yourself infront of a player defensively when hes attacking the basket...the game is just off!
I could go on but in summary, DONT BUY THIS GAME.
Update:
Just returned this game. Hopefully 2k7 will live up to its reviews...

2006-10-20For those of you having difficulty with ball release, this is for you:
I have been playing the nba live franchise since Live 95. yes, 1995. this year the release point has been changed. it took me a few min. to get used to it, but once you do, you make the same % as before.
in this version, you DO NOT release at the top of the jump animation. rather, you release the botton earlier.... the animation will release slightly later, with your goal being the top of the jump. practice an earlier release and youll be back to your shooting self in no-time.

2006-10-05After playing Live for the 360, it made me fall asleep, it was boring and while the graphics are excellent, it just has this weird vibe. The shots do not come off right, the shooting animation is so slow that you can have a wide open guy on the wing and by the time he gets up and into the air and release the shot, a defender can make up serious ground and block it. Against the computer, I had JJ Reddick and Turkoglu blocked 5 times apiece by Mourning and Shaq coming from the basket on what were wide open shots. There are also a ton of missed dunks, even Howard missed several. It is hard to pull of threes as well, since their guaranteed bricks.
The point guard and fatigue issue also sucks. The comp team never subs regardless of sliders. And their point guard scores 90% of the points. I played vs. Milwaukee and Maurice Williams scored practically every basket. This occured regardless of what level. Edit player is also a joke; I cannot edit the height, but at least I can edit the number and position. The rosters were supposed to be as of Aug. 24th, but where is Turiaf? And why is Battie a FA, he was never renounced or waived!
The press box angle is actually not bad. I dunno why Live insists on having their players pass in uncoventional ways, things like hook-shot style passes, behind the backs, even though the situation does not need those. The subsitution is also clunky; you can do the sub using the D-pad during a break in the action, but by the time you select the player you are bringing in, the game resumes leaving you with the same people on the court.
The timeouts are also timed, as in if you call a 20, there is a 20 second clock and so on. But you can always press a button to continue. The archs on the shots are off as well. Who shoots a high-archer in the paint? There are no retroes unless their unlockable. The courts look good but they dont have mascots, so it seems kinda dead. That should be the new name of this series. NBA DEAD 07.
I dont blame Mac for signing an NBA 2K7 game during Lives launch party. He knows what game is better!

2006-10-05You should really.... NOT buy this game even though I did not buy the game on Amazon, Im trying to help all of you who are trying to decide hmm should I get NBA 2k7 or Live well it right now is a prety obvious choice NBA 2k7. Live is ment so much for those with live for those without live. Such as u need Xbox live to activate ESPN integration, yeah like anyone ever told me this. So if u are trying to decide wich one get 2k7. Lives graphics are good but 2k7s tops it and the jumpshots for live arent that good. And the dynasty mode is not any cooler with the more depth draft and team practices. Live 2003 was good but Live 2007 SUCKS. Also I know I am but dont be fooled by all of the comercials it is nothing like them so stick with 2k7 and u will be happy with your choice for months to come.....

2006-10-04Have you ever watched a basketball game where your team was down and you thought if theyd just make a few adjustments, theyd come back and win it? I have. Ive also played a series of basketball games that mimics this very well. Its called NBA Live. Its a basketball franchise that has always been that one step behind, missing that one little touch that would make it an excellent contender. I was excited to see that the 2007 might be the year that EA Canada really came out on top. I visited the studio back in early August and got a glimpse of NBA Live 07, and at the time I was slightly less impressed with its next-gen offering than its current-gen one. Flash-forward almost two months, and as I write this review, I feel the same way. NBA Live 07 dropped the ball in so many ways in its second next-generation season that its almost more disappointing than last years abysmal Xbox 360 launch title.
NBA Live 07 isnt a great basketball game in any way, really. In most categories, it just falls flat. Its like watching Shaq have a ho-hum game in the Playoffs, only to end up fouled out on the bench. Its quite sad, really, after seeing all of the work that went into so many different areas that ultimately dont make the most important factor of a basketball game: its entertainment value.
On the court, NBA Live 07 just doesnt perform. It performs so badly, in fact, that Id almost consider it unplayable. Where EA Canada strived to deliver a feeling of momentum, they created an awkward and uncontrollable feeling of control that is actually too difficult to describe, so Ill quit trying. It just feels like crap, to say the least. Having dunk and lay-up buttons was a stupid decision, and I simply thought it was the most annoying thing in the world to watch a professional like T-Mac clang a dunk off of the front of the rim on a fast break. Similarly to 2K Sports competition, NBA 2K7, the CPU in NBA Live 07 lacks any sort of awareness. Your players will simply watch as opponents hop up and down and all around for loose balls and rebounds. Rebounding controls are nonexistent. I cant say I enjoyed watching the CPU score more second-chance points than I thought were possible. On defense, the right analog control system is completely out of whack. It used to be a fantastic system that quickly allowed you to squat down low, swat at the ball, or even hold your hands up to defend the pass or close-range shot. Now its sluggish and more frustrating to use than anything. In reality, telling you how badly it feels to play NBA Live 07 on the Xbox 360 is hopeless. Its such an embarrassing flop of a control system that it should simply be played to be understood.
Visually, NBA Live 07 would be a lot more successful if its animation wasnt as awkward and sluggish as its gameplay. While the character models are quite good and feature a ton of detail, they animate so poorly that its almost funny to watch the players move around like robots. At least the commentary is good--and by good, I mean great--Marv Albert and Steve Kerr can really go at it in basketball chatter. On top of fantastic on-court chatter and realistic crowd effects, NBA Live 07 is definitely entertaining to listen to. Its just too bad it has to be done while playing a game of basketball that isnt much fun to control.
In terms of features, NBA Live 07 is loaded. Its got everything you could want out of a basketball game (sans the smooth animation and good controls). Its got a Franchise mode that is chock-full with deep options like hiring a staff that actually affects on- and off-court gameplay and managing funds. Its got the NBA All-Star Weekend mode that lets you play the high-flying Slam Dunk Contest and even the Rookie Game. Its even got ESPN Integration that lets you hear headlines and news clips in the sports world every single day as well as several other things. This ESPN integration is fantastic, and Id say that its the strongest addition to any sports game so far this year--but having this integration with a solid basketball title would have been nice.
Overall, NBA Live 07 makes improvements on its awful next-generation predecessor. Its an Xbox 360 basketball game that is missing a few very important touches, like playability and streamlined animation. EA Canada has some great ideas here. Theyve got the ambition, theyve got the ideas. Theyve just got to execute. Like any rookie in the NBA, you cant just have the heart, youve gotta have the game to make it big and run with the competition. In the end, you wont be cheering for NBA Live 07. In fact, the chant will be, "DISAPPOINTMENT (Clap, clap, clapclapclap!)"

2006-10-03Been a loyal costumer of EAs NBA Live series for many years, but that may change after this years NBA Live 07. The much-hyped free-style controls are incredibly difficult to master, and if youre playing against the computer, which I often do, you might as well throw in the towel. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, it is extremely difficult to make any kind of open shot (and this is in rookie mode), while the computer CAN NOT miss. I played one game as the LA Lakers vs. Atlanta. The 1st half score had the Hawks beating me by 45, and Im no novie to how video game basketball is played. Josh Howard is NOT good enough in reality to score 33 in that half (anyone who follows the NBA knows what Im saying). Also, had Kobe on 3 open-court fast breaks, no one around him; he missed 3 consecutive open dunks. That doesnt happen in reality. Enough venting, Im off to pick up NBA 2K7.

2006-10-02This game had a ton of hype surrounding it, as EA has dominated in the basketball video game realm for the last decade. Being a staunch follower since Live 95, it was natural to pick up Live 07. Unfortunately, this years game is HUGE let down. Never have I seen a video game franchise move backwards, but this is apparently the case. The graphics are great as always, but the framerate is unbearably slow and hard to get used to. On top of that, the gameplay itself is weak...the AI exploits the same defensive weaknesses over and over, and because you have little control over what it is your team is doing, this can happen for an entire game. And dont get me started on online play...you might as well be playing over dialup.
This game is going up for sale on Amazons Marketplace later this week, though its a shame the value of this game is already nearly halved. Looks like 2k7 is the way to go from now on!

2006-09-30I have purchased the NBA LIVE franchise since its inception. So, I was really looking forward to this years model with its improved graphics and with the aid of the Xbox 360. The graphics and presentations are first rate. But it appears the gameplay was intended mainly for the Xbox Live segment. At any level, playing against the computer produces only frustration. Trying to score on the inside is almost impossible while the computer scores at will. There are other gameplay changes that have ruined a game that in the past was the best. Save your money.

2006-09-30NBA Live 07 for the Xbox 360 looks next generation, especially in high-def. But most of the time it still plays like current-gen, or even to a degree--much worse. The in-game camera is too shaky! The players twitch and dunk through other players, including the backboard. Bad programming, folks! And unacceptable, EA! Im disspointed in this addition. EA Sports really needs to control the lag time for Online play, which is basically unplayable. There should be no excuses this year. The game producers have had enough time to smooth everything out from Live 06. Most of the reviews here have vented all the messy game mechanics and awful programming, which is glitchy and unplayable. Sure, the addition of ESPN is pretty cool, and EA has added a Dynasty mode to the 360 this year, but who cares! This game plays awful! And I think everyone out there (who has access to HD television) will enjoy what 2K Sports has done with their rendition of an NBA sim. The producers for NBA Live 07 need to step down, let some other folks take over to re-energize this game. I will keep my NBA Live 07 game for now, until College Hoops by 2K7 comes out, and then trade the game.

2006-09-29I have purchased the NBA LIVE franchise since its inception.

2006-09-28EA has got to be kidding with this horrible game. The players look like clay and the feel of the game is like playing ball in water. This game has no sim to it. Its all about breaking ankles and sliding to the basket for fake looking dunks. Do yourself a favor and get 2k7 which is what sports games should be like...

2006-09-28This is a big leap forward from last years game. The graphics and game modes are great. The ESPN content is a wonderful idea. However the gameplay isnt the greatest because its very hard to score inside. Almsot every time you attempt a dunk inside you get called for an offensive foul.
